Telia provides IP telephony to Nässjö Municipality Last weekend Telia disconnected the conventional PBX system used by the Municipality of Nässjö (Sweden) and replaced it by connecting a IP-based solution in which mobilephony also is integrated. Municipality of Nässjö will be first in Sweden with a totally integrated telephony solution. The complete telephony solution, comprising approximately 1 150 extensions, consists primarily of an IP telephony system that has been supplemented with Telia´s virtual switch -Centrex - which provides connections in locations that are not connected to the municipality´s data network. The municipality´s mobile phone users can also be integrated in the solution. - Nässjö is the first municipality in Sweden to integrate voice, data and mobile communications in the same telephony solution, says Anders Gylder, President of TeliaSonera Sweden´s Large Corporate Customers Segment. With the IP-based solution, all municipal employees gain access to new services. For example, the internal phone directory is visible on the display of the IP phone. Employees can use a menu to choose the right information or service instead of having to memorize difficult combinations of codes using the star and pound buttons. With its new investment, the municipality now has an enhanced computer network and new telephone functionality at a lower monthly cost per user, compared to before. - In contrast to other providers, Telia and Cisco offered a solution in which we only needed one port per user, since the IP telephone is equipped with a switch that separates voice from data. This saved us a considerable amount of money, says Sven-Erick Andersson, IT project manager for the Municipality of Nässjö.
