Telia raises the price for fixed telephony subscriptions SEK 20 per month

On April 14, Telia will raise the price of the Telia Bas telephony subscription from SEK 125 to SEK 145 per month (SEK 132, excl. VAT, for Telia business subscriptions). This marks the first increase in the price of fixed telephony subscriptions since 2001. The infrastructure company, Skanova, has implemented a new price list for telecom operators using the copper network, which explains the increase. In conjunction with the change, Telia will also offer its customers attractive combination packages for telephony, broadband and TV.

The price of the Telia Bas subscription, which is regulated by the Swedish Post and Telecom Agency, has not been raised since 2001. On February 12, the infrastructure company, Skanova, announced to its carrier customers that it will increase the price of access to the copper network. Skanova's price increase is a result of the ongoing shift in technology and rising costs per connection and is the reason behind the increase in Telia Bas from SEK 125 to SEK 145 per month as of April 14 and in Telia business subscriptions* from SEK 116 to SEK 132 per month, excluding VAT.

"In recent years, our customers have seen the variable per-minute price of phone calls steadily fall, in some cases by as much as fifty percent. This fall, combined with the steady price of fixed subscriptions over the past eight years, has meant that consumers have been able to reduce their costs for fixed telephony," says Stefan Trampus, Head of Broadband Services at Telia.

The trend of buying multiple services from a single supplier is still strong. Many households choose to buy telephony, broadband and TV - commonly referred to as "triple play".

"We will send letters to all of our customers affected by the price increase with more information," says Stefan Trampus. "We will also reward those who buy multiple services from us and offer attractive combination packages for telephony, broadband and TV. For many customers, this will mean lower prices than what they pay today."

* For business customers, the fee increase will take effect on May 14, depending on the terms of the agreement.
