Telia ranked as leader in children’s rights
Published this week, the Global Child Forum’s latest assessment recognizes the positive impact of Telia’s wide-ranging efforts to uphold the rights of children.
Every year, the Global Child Forum (GCF), in collaboration with Boston Consulting Group, benchmarks large international companies on how well they include children’s rights in their operations and value chains.
This year’s report ranks Telia as the top-performing Swedish company and the joint third best in the Nordic region. It analyzes 1,802 companies around the world by 25 metrics, including governance, environmental work and marketing.
Some examples of Telia’s ongoing work around children’s rights include:
- We provide free communications access to the Swedish child helpline BRIS.
- Our employees engage with children in schools and summer camps to create awareness of topics such as cybersecurity.
- We’ve developed a methodology to assess how the products we offer impact children’s rights; one example is evaluating smart watches from the perspective of child privacy and safety.
- We make a Mobile Driving License tool available for 8- to 11-year-olds, with the aim of creating discussion between children and parents about online life.
- Telia’s family offering includes software for parents to set limits on children’s screen time and block harmful content.
- Every year in our Annual Report, we set out clear targets and progress relating to children’s rights.
Anna Augustson, Telia Company Head of Group Sustainability: “Children can meet both fantastic opportunities and risks online. Our approach is to empower families, while building resilience and understanding of how to avoid harmful situations. It’s great to receive such high-profile recognition for our continued leadership, which will become even more relevant as children’s lives grow increasingly connected.”
Headquartered in Stockholm, the GCF is a non-profit foundation focused on the role of business in advancing children’s rights. The full report, ‘The State of Children’s Rights & Business 2024’, is available here.
