– first in Nordic region with service paying content contributors per view

Today, Telia is launching the LookAtMe TV service on its mobile Internet portal, Telia SurfPort. Customers using the service in Sweden can send MMS messages with video clips to a mobile website where other people can visit and view the mobile videos. Every time someone watches a clip, the person contributing the content earns cash. With 4.3 million potential viewers in Sweden, video content contributors can look forward to gaining some fame, but can also make some money.

Telia is the first in the Nordic countries to launch a mobile service in which contributors are paid each time someone chooses to view his or her video content. A similar concept has been tested in Europe and it has been a major success. For example, a company in the U.K. has reported more than one million downloads per month.

“The range of services based on user-generated content has exploded in the past few years,” says Håkan Dahlström, head of Mobility Services at TeliaSonera Sweden. “It feels quite natural that these services have now stepped into the mobile phone world. The fact that customers also have the opportunity to earn some cash for their content makes the service even more exciting.”

The phenomenon called User Generated Content (UGC) made its big breakthrough with the YouTube site, where users can submit clips to a video-sharing website where the content is available for anyone to view. LookAtMe TV works the same way but on mobile phones, and with the difference that the person contributing the content can earn money.

How it works
Users send their video by MMS to the number 71470. The clip is reviewed by a moderator before it is published on the Telia SurfPort mobile portal in different categories, such as “stunts and tricks”, “crazy clips” and “cute clips”.

Each time a customer watches a clip, the person who contributed the video earns SEK 0.20. When the amount exceeds SEK 150, the money is paid to a personal account. It costs SEK 2.00 to view a video. Other data traffic is included within Telia’s maximum rate of SEK 9.00 per 24 hours.

To use the service, a person needs a mobile phone capable of sending multimedia messages and recording video – features that most modern mobiles have today.
