TeliaSonera dramatically lowers prices for mobile data abroad by up to 70 percent

From April 1st, 2008, TeliaSonera makes it much cheaper for customers to use mobile data in Europe. The new roaming service EuroConnect will dramatically lower the prices of mobile data services. Initially, EuroConnect will be introduced in the TeliaSonera mobile networks in the Nordic and Baltic countries and with other selected mobile operators in various European countries. The service is based on a flat rate model resulting in between 50 and 70 percent lower prices.

The new prices are a result of TeliaSonera being active in negotiations with numerous other European operators, preparing agreements for lower wholesale prices.

“Our aim is to create a common European mobile data offering and we will continue to lower the prices step by step as we finalise negotiations with additional operators”, says Kenneth Karlberg, President of Business Area Mobility Services at TeliaSonera.

TeliaSonera believes that reduced prices for international data roaming will increase the usage of mobile data and internet services in Europe. The company also believes it is important for customers to be able to monitor the costs involved when using data services in roaming situations - especially when prices vary from their local standard operators’.

Last year, TeliaSonera introduced a service that alerts customers when using their mobile data abroad as a way to avoid unexpectedly high bills upon their return home. In addition to EuroConnect and lower data prices, TeliaSonera will develop a maximum daily charge product to be launched later this year, which will allow customers to control their expenses in an easy and clear manner.

“We support low data prices and the need for transparency and visibility helping customers to clearly understand the costs involved. TeliaSonera is at the forefront in providing customers with this service”, says Kenneth Karlberg.
