TeliaSonera continues the build out of 4G in Sweden and Norway. The common 4G/LTE core network will be delivered by Ericsson and the radio networks by Ericsson and Nokia Siemens Networks.

“The use of mobile broadband in the Nordic countries is exploding and customers need higher speeds and capacity. Both Ericsson and Nokia Siemens Networks have been able to provide high quality technology and competitive offers,” says Lars Klasson, Senior Vice President and CTO, Mobility Services, TeliaSonera. As the first operator in the world, TeliaSonera launched 4G services to customers in Stockholm, Sweden and Oslo, Norway at the end of 2009. TeliaSonera was also the first operator to make a live 4G connection in Finland. 4G is the fastest mobile technology available on the market, with speeds up to ten times higher than today’s turbo 3G. TeliaSonera’s current 4G networks cover the central city areas of Stockholm and Oslo. The 4G network roll-out will continue to Sweden’s 25 largest municipalities and recreation areas and to Norway’s four largest municipalities to offer communication services for the future. Facts: TeliaSonera has three nation wide 4G/LTE licenses in the 2.6 GHz frequency band; in Sweden, Norway and Finland. The agreement with Ericsson and Nokia Siemens Networks cover network roll out during 2010 and 2011. Huawei continues to finalize the 4G city network in Oslo. The 4G/LTE system is based on 3GPP standards for Long Term Evolution (LTE) radio technology and System Architecture Evolution (SAE) core technology.
