TeliaSonera leads a trial for interoperable video share service

(3GSM World Congress, Barcelona) TeliaSonera has led the GSM Association’s trial with the participation of other key players in the industry to ensure the interoperability of video share across networks among mobile users. The interoperability trials are spanning across three continents. Successful completion of the trials in Europe, Asia and the United States will ensure that video share services work smoothly across networks and national boundaries right from launch. The interoperability trials within GSM Association are part of TeliaSonera´s strategy to ensure simplicity and easy to use services.

Video share service enables the participant in a voice call to send live video of what they are looking at to the other participant. Video share is expected to become a very popular service used to exchange everything from live holiday greetings to other footage of free-time activities and also more business-oriented uses, for example sending video of an item for sale. The trials conducted during the first half of 2006 will make it possible to successfully launch video share services across networks on a global scale “According to our strategy, we are committed to increasing the simplicity of our services to the customers. The tests make use of a technology called IP Multimedia Subsystems (IMS), to allow users to share video clips across both fixed and mobile networks in a fast and efficient way. IMS, which uses the Session Initiation Protocol (SIP) to initiate and manage connections, is a network architecture that many operators plan to use to deliver new services such as instant messaging, push-to-talk, videotelephony and multiplayer games to mobile users. The GSMA trial has brought together 50 key players from the mobile network operator, GRX carrier and vendor communities.
