TeliaSonera's acquisition of shares in Omnitel completed The Lithuanian Competition Council has approved TeliaSonera's acquisition of Motorola's 35-percent shareholding in UAB Omnitel of Lithuania. With that the acquisition is completed and TeliaSonera now holds 90 percent of the shares in Omnitel. TeliaSonera pays USD 117 million for Motorola's shares. The purchase price is paid in cash and the transaction will have a cash flow effect on TeliaSonera in the fourth quarter 2003. TeliaSonera is pursuing its aim of strengthening TeliaSonera as the leading mobile and fixed-line telecom operator in its core market, the Nordic-Baltic region. UAB Omnitel, which was the first private telecommunications company established in Eastern Europe, is the largest mobile operator in the Baltic countries with one million subscribers at the end of November 2003. The company presently has an overall market share of approximately 50 percent and is the leading choice of corporate customers in Lithuania.
