“Top ten” in mobile phone sales in Telia stores in August 2006

In August, a 3G mobile phone topped Telia’s list of best-selling mobile handsets for the first time ever when the Sony Ericsson K800i jumped from sixth to first place. The Top Ten List featured yet another new 3G product with the debut of a PC card from Huawei, which is used by Telia Wireless Broadband customers to connect their portable computers to the mobile network.

According to a Telia survey conducted in the beginning of the summer, six out of ten customers said they planned on taking their portable computer with them to their summer houses. It seems like they did – the Telia Wireless Broadband service was launched in June and the PC card qualified for the top ten list already by August. “The summer of 2006 seems to be the one when Swedes seriously started to surf, chat and e-mail over the mobile network,” says Indra Åsander, Head of the Consumer Market at TeliaSonera Sweden. The statistics are based on sales in 76 Telia retail stores in Sweden. Telia has the largest retail chain in Sweden for telecom products and is one of the biggest resellers of mobile phones in the country. Telia has chosen to include the PC card in the Top Ten List because Telia classifies the product as a mobile terminal. About the survey Telia surveyed 1,539 people in Sweden about their IT equipment and their remote network connection possibilities from their summer homes. The survey, titled “Telia Summer Trends 2006”, was conducted May 16-22, 2006.
