Yoigo, TeliaSonera’s mobile operation in Spain, upgrades the mobile network for higher speed and wider coverage to the major cities in Spain. Ericsson has been chosen as network supplier.

The 3G network will be modernized with higher speeds, and further built out to increase coverage. By the end of 2011, the network extension will cover most towns in Spain and the mobile data and broadband speed will be increased to 21 Mbit/s.

– Our Spanish greenfield operation, Yoigo, has developed very positively and we reached EBITDA breakeven during the fourth quarter 2010. Now we have agreed with Ericsson to upgrade the 3G network for higher speed and wider coverage, and at the same time prepare the network infrastructure for future 4G activities, says Claes Nycander, CTO Mobility Services at TeliaSonera.
