Stora Enso chooses Telia for global network Telia, in the face of tough international competition, has been awarded a contract for the supply of a global data communications network by the Stora Enso forestry products group. The network will connect 15,000 users at 400 Stora Enso sites in the Nordic countries, the rest of Europe, South and North America, Asia, Australia and Africa. According to the terms of the contract, Telia will supply IP-based communications of high availability for users through a customer-specific network linking Stora Enso units all over the world. Telia will provide the Internet connections and supervise the firewalls, as well as supply Stora Enso's extranet and remote access service, which will also give Stora Enso's employees access to the company's local area network when they travel on business trips. "It was important for us to find a partner who is strong in both the Nordic region and internationally," said Allan Karlsson, Director of IT Infrastructure at Stora Enso in Falun, Sweden. "We decided to choose Telia because of the company's ability to install the new network, and because of the functionality, quality and price of their network services." In the contract Telia will supply IP-based services to 170 Stora Enso sites in Finland only. Global coverage will be provided in collaboration with Infonet. "This order from Stora Enso is a breakthrough for Telia. The fact that we won the contract in competition with the world's leading companies not only strengthens our position as a market leader in the Nordic region. It also puts Telia on the world map as a provider of high-quality IP and broadband services," commented Reino Johansson, President of Telia Megacom.
