Telia and NORDUnet develop their co-operation Telia International Carrier (Telia IC) continues to strengthen its position within the university world. For the last three years Telia IC has provided NORDUnet with a backbone enabling the Nordic universities and research institutes to connect with one another. A decision of continuance has now been made and Telia IC and NORDUnet will also develop a separate new project for a research net called 6NET. NORDUnet is the Nordic Internet highway to research and education networks in Denmark, Finland, Iceland, Norway and Sweden. It also provides the Nordic backbone to the Global Information Society. - NORDUnet and Dante are good examples of the coming of collaborative ventures as drivers of capacity demand in the future, says Erik Heilborn, President, Telia International Carrier. NORDUnets continued trust in us verifies our high level of deliverance. NORDUnet is also linked to the European university- and research backbone network,to which Telia IC also provides capacity. GÉANT links together European knowledge-banks and eases the information flow in- between universities and their study- and research programmes. - Telia International Carrier has fulfilled our requirements in terms of cost-efficiency, reliability, security and customer care, says NORDUnet General Manager Peter Villemoes. Telia International Carrier has provided NORDUnet with a Nordic backbone during the last 2.5 years. The net has over time been upgraded to a high- tech network of 2.5 Gbit. Core nodes in Stockholm, Copenhagen, Oslo and Helsinki form the network ring. NORDUnet has decided to make a continuance with Telia International Carrier, as well as co-operate on a new research-net project called the 6NET. The 6NET project is an EU supported research activity, co-ordinated by Cisco, with the aim to produce an operational high speed IPv6 network in Europe within the next 3 years.
