Telia and private houseowners association team up to provide broadband services to Swedish households Telia and the Swedish Association of Private House Owners (Villaägarnas Riksförbund) have entered into a cooperation agreement to provide a simple and low-cost broadband solution for households in private single-family homes in Sweden. For a one-time connection fee of SEK 975 and a fixed monthly rate of SEK 200, members of the association can subscribe to Telia's broadband services and have a fixed online connection to the Internet. No expensive investments will be required in fiber optic cable. The only piece of equipment needed is an ADSL (Asymmetric Digital Subscriber Line) modem. A household's phone line can be used for calls at the same time as a computer is online with the Internet. "We're pleased to be at the cutting edge of broadband services for households in private homes. Through our cooperation with Telia, we can offer a high-value, low-cost broadband solution that is also user- friendly," commented Nils Schirren, President of the Swedish Association of Private House Owners, who is convinced that broadband will quickly transform the homes and lifestyle of the Swedish people. The intelligent home will be a reality in Sweden in just a few years now that the first and most important building block is now being laid, believes Nils Schirren. He looks forward to seeing exciting new IT services provided to Swedish private homes: "Our association is very positive to having Telia has our cooperation partner. The company is an established organization with strong resources and the capacity to capture a leading position in the rapidly developing IT area," ended Nils Schirren. The agreement covers primarily 24 areas* that Telia has targeted as priority expansion areas. The new broadband service will be delivered gradually, starting at the end of this summer. "Telia views its collaboration with the Swedish Association of Private House Owners as a strategic marketing and coordination channel that will allow us to provide broadband access quickly, and in profitable volumes. We are taking our first step toward the single-family home market with a truly strong partner," commented Mikael Ek, of Telia Broadband´s Sales Manager.
