Telia appeals Post & Telestyrelsen's UMTS decision The Swedish National Post & Telecom Agency (Post & Telestyrelsen) decided today which companies should be awarded the four UMTS licences in Sweden. Telia was not awarded a licence, and is going to appeal the decision. Telia will now carry out a detailed analysis of the reasons PTS gave for its decision. "We are extremely surprised since we fulfil all the important criteria", says Kenneth Karlberg, Senior Executive Vice President, Telia AB and CEO, Telia Mobile AB. "We will review our application once again, and then make an appeal." Marianne Nivert, President and CEO of the Telia Group also expresses her astonishment over PTS´s decision not to award Telia with one of the four UMTS-licences: " Telia is the leading mobile operator in the Swedish market with full national GSM-coverage. In the light of this it is very peculiar that PTS doesn´t seem to believe we´re worthy of a licence," says Marianne Nivert.
