Telia deregisters remaining NMT 900 subscriptions Telia closed its Swedish NMT 900 network in Dec 31, 2000. Since the closing was annonunced in 1998 the majority of the NMT 900 customers had already transferred to GSM or NMT 450. The remaining 27,000 subscriptions which hadn´t been ended or transferred to other subscription forms was therefore deregistered by March 31 this year. Telia already annonunced the closing of the NMT 900 network due to frequency shortages and the growing popularity of digital mobile technology such as GSM in 1998. Existing NMT 900 customers were offered other subscription forms within the GSM or NMT 450 networks. Since 1998 approximately 14,500 customers/month have left the NMT 900 network and the majority have chosen to remain with Telia. The remaining 27,000 NMT 900 subscriptions after the closing have now been deregistered and will be taken away from the total customer base.
