Telia raises subscription rate for fixed telephony Telia is adjusting the cost of its subscription rate for fixed telephony. On March 1, 2001, the price of a telephone subscription for residential customers is being increased by SEK 20 per month and will be SEK 125 per month (including 25% VAT) with effect from that date. Due to a price ceiling established by the Swedish government on July 1, 1997, Telia has not been completely free to set all of its prices for end customers. As a consequence, the distribution between fixed subscription rates and variable traffic charges has been disproportionate and traffic revenues have subsidised subscription costs to a certain extent. The price ceiling, discontinued on December 31, 2000, covered prices for new main phone lines, the relocation of main phone lines, the transfer of main phone lines to another person and the subscription rate for the main line. Only the price for the subscription is being changed on March 1. In addition to the monthly rate for residential customers, the price increase will affect subscription rates for associations, subscription rates for holiday homes and youth subscriptions.
