Annual outages start in Olkiluoto
Annual outages have started at TVO's nuclear power plant. For Olkiluoto 1, the outage is this year a one-week refuelling outage, while Olkiluoto 2 will undergo a maintenance outage expected to take about 17 days.
Olkiluoto 1 was disconnected from the national grid on Sunday evening, 12 May. In addition to refuelling, also once-a-year periodical maintenance activities and tests as well as fault repairs will be carried out during the outage.
The maintenance outage of Olkiluoto 2 will start on 26 May. The most significant activities to be carried out, apart from refuelling, include the replacement of low-voltage switchgear in two subsystems, the repair of the stator in a generator, as well as the leak-tightness test of the reactor containment. According to the preliminary plan, the outage will be completed by 13 June.
TVO's own personnel are supplemented by at most some 800 subcontractor employees for the duration of the outages.
