Teollisuuden Voima Oyj's (TVO) Senior Vice President for Safety and Security Services, Mikko Kosonen, has been appointed as a Corporate Advisor as of January 1, 2022, and he will retire during the summer 2022. M.Sc (Tech.), D.Sc (Tech.) Veli-Pekka Nurmi has been appointed as the new Senior Vice President for Safety and Security Services, and he will be transferring to the TVO Group from his position as Executive Director of the Safety Investigation Authority in Finland (OTKES). The appointment enters into force on January 1, 2022.

Veli-Pekka Nurmi has a strong background in safety management both as a representative of an authority and an energy company. Originally from Satakunta, Nurmi has worked as the Executive Director of the Safety Investigation Authority for the past eleven years, overseeing the bureau's operations, development, and international cooperation. As TVO's Senior Vice President for Safety and Security Services, Nurmi will oversee the entire Group's safety functions, safety development, and international cooperation.

– It is bittersweet to leave behind a fantastic position in the management of the Safety Investigation Authority after a long service period. However, I am very excited about this opportunity. Professionally, I am in a way returning home with all of the learnings in my backpack which I have acquired during my career so far from different difficulties, but also triumphs. TVO is one of the best in the world in safety management, an employer of which I can be proud. It is great to join such a competent group as a team player, says Veli-Pekka Nurmi

M.Sc (Tech.) Mikko Kosonen has worked at TVO since 1984 in many positions of responsibility, such as nine years as Senior Vice President for Production, and the past four years as the TVO Group's Senior Vice President for Safety and Security Services. Kosonen, who is an internationally renowned expert in nuclear safety, will act as a Corporate Advisor before retiring.

– I warmly welcome Veli-Pekka Nurmi into our work community to strengthen and develop safety and safety culture, which is at the heart of our business activities. I want to thank Mikko Kosonen already now for the particularly well-managed production years and strengthening safety aspects in our organization, says President and CEO Jarmo Tanhua

Teollisuuden Voima Oyj has produced electricity for its shareholders, Finnish industrial and energy companies, safely and reliably for 40 years. Nuclear electricity generated at TVO's Olkiluoto plant covers approximately one sixth, increasing to nearly one third once Olkiluoto 3 is completed, of the electricity consumption in Finland. Climate-friendly nuclear electricity not only benefits society but also reduces the environmental impact of energy production. Moreover, the world's first final disposal facility for spent nuclear fuel is under construction in Olkiluoto.
