Indications of damaged fuel have been detected at Olkiluoto 1 (OL1), as a result of which the power level of the plant unit will be reduced to 65 percent on Thursday, 7 July, starting from 8 a.m. At this power level, the damaged fuel will be localised. The increase of the power level will start on the same day at approximately 8:45 p.m., and full power is expected to be reached on Friday, 8 July at 10:15 a.m.

On Sunday, 10 July 2022 at 4 p.m., measures will be started to bring the plant unit to a shutdown in order to remove the damaged fuel elements. The plant unit will be disconnected from the national grid at approximately 6 p.m. After the shutdown, the electricity generation at the plant unit is estimated to continue on Saturday, 16 July 2022.

Teollisuuden Voima Oyj has produced electricity for its shareholders, Finnish industrial and energy companies, safely and reliably for over 40 years. Nuclear electricity generated at TVO's Olkiluoto plant covers approximately 30 percent of Finland’s electricity demand once Olkiluoto 3’s regular electricity production has started. Climate-friendly nuclear electricity not only benefits society but also reduces the environmental impact of energy production. Moreover, the world's first final disposal facility for spent nuclear fuel is under construction in Olkiluoto.
