In 2020, the nuclear power plant of TVO in Olkiluoto produced 14.6 TWh (billion kilowatt-hours) of electricity, which satisfied about one sixth of the total electricity consumption in Finland. The combined load factor of the plant units was 93.5 percent.

Olkiluoto NPP produced electricity for Finland in an environmentally friendly manner throughout the year 2020. The production of electricity at Olkiluoto 1 (OL1) amounted to 7.31 TWh and the load factor of the plant unit was 93.7 percent.

Plant unit Olkiluoto 2 (OL2) achieved a production volume of 7.28 TWh and a load factor of 93.3 percent. The production of the plant unit was affected by the operational occurrence in December, in particular.

Small maintenance work was carried out during the year also outside the annual outages at both plant units and this is reflected in the electricity production volumes.

- COVID-19 made 2020 an exceptional year globally. Despite the pandemic and the exceptional conditions caused by it, the production of electricity continued in Olkiluoto safely all year round. The professionally skilled and competent personnel together with our network of cooperation partners came through with excellent results, for example in executing the annual outages in the summer and handling the operational occurrence at OL2 in December, says Ms. Marjo Mustonen, Senior Vice President for electricity production.

Teollisuuden Voima Oyj has produced electricity for its shareholders, Finnish industrial and energy companies, safely and reliably for over 40 years. Nuclear electricity generated at TVO's Olkiluoto plant covers approximately one sixth, increasing to nearly one third once Olkiluoto 3 is completed, of the electricity consumption in Finland. Climate-friendly nuclear electricity not only benefits society but also reduces the environmental impact of energy production. Moreover, the world's first final disposal facility for spent nuclear fuel is under construction in Olkiluoto.
