Eklund Foundation Announces 2022 Grant Recipients
The Eklund Foundation for Odontological Research and Education is pleased to announce the two projects receiving this year’s funding.
The Eklund Foundation now supports research projects in dentistry for the seventh year running. The two chosen projects, which are to be conducted at University of Ferrara, Italy, and University of L'Aquila, also in Italy, will together receive funding amounting to €226,800.
Joel Eklund, Chairman of the Board, Eklund Foundation, said, “Based on the fact that patient compliance and oral home care are critical for successful periodontal treatment, we are delighted to support these highly clinically relevant studies.”
The Eklund family, owners of TePe Oral Hygiene products, created the Eklund Foundation to celebrate their long-standing relationship with the professional dental community. Since 2016, the foundation has distributed up to €240,000 annually, supporting odontological research worldwide. The Eklund Foundation has decided to award grants to the following projects:
Efficacy of periodontal risk communication on awareness and propensity to undergo the suggested treatments in patients with and without history of tooth loss due to periodontitis
Main applicant: Roberto Farina, Associate Professor and Dean, School of Dental Hygiene, University of Ferrara, Italy
Co-applicant: Anna Simonelli, Adjunct Professor of Periodontology, School of Dentistry, University of Ferrara, Italy
Supervisor: Leonardo Trombelli, Full Professor and Dean, Section of Dentistry, University of Ferrara, Italy
Funding: €90,000
Motivation: “Highlighting the importance of communication to enhance patient compliance and understanding, this study has the potential to positively influence periodontal treatment in practice.”
Personal home oral care to enhance blood pressure control (PROMOTE-BP)

Motivation: “As hypertension is a globally widespread problem where medical treatment does not always have the desired result, investigating the role of oral hygiene in relation to systemic effects is highly valuable.”
