Clean fleet event promotes propane autogas for Lubbock agribusinesses

The American Wind Power Center & Museum featured another kind of clean energy this Tuesday during a propane autogas fleet event, presented by the Propane Council of Texas. West Texas fleets, landscapers and agribusinesses experienced affordable American-made clean fuel in action during the educational seminar and ride and drive showcasing local propane-powered fleet vehicles and lawn and landscaping equipment.

Texas agribusinesses can benefit doubly by switching both their equipment and vehicle fleets to propane autogas, which costs an average of 30-50 percent less than gasoline while delivering the same dependable performance.

“When it comes to clean energy, most West Texans are familiar with the massive windmills dotting the landscape, but they may be unaware that the most viable alternative fuel for fleets—propane autogas—is also right here in their backyards,” says Jackie Mason, Educational & Marketing Director for ProCOT. “The world’s largest propane storage is located in Texas, and more than 700 fueling stations are available across the state. Autogas is affordable to implement without sacrificing power, making it ideal for fleets in West Texas from agriculture to local businesses.”

Industry experts in attendance included Bill Van Hoy, the executive director of the Texas Propane Gas Association (TPGA); and Franz Hofmann, president of Gearhead Consulting, LLC, and former lead automotive instructor for the Alternative Energy Division of the Railroad Commission of Texas. Representatives from Pinnacle Propane, Schiller Bob Cat and Ferris Industries were also present to display propane autogas mowers and trucks during the ride and drive.

Propane-powered vehicles and equipment require less maintenance since autogas is cleaner-burning than conventional fuels, with a higher octane rating. Propane autogas is the most widely used alternative fuel in the world, powering more than 21 million vehicles globally, and 98 percent of the U.S. autogas supply is made in America.

Propane Autogas: Fueling Texas is a public awareness campaign that educates Texans about the benefits of running fleet vehicles and equipment on clean-burning, domestically produced propane autogas. The campaign features a series of statewide autogas presentations and road shows to provide fleet operators, drivers and community members a hands-on experience with clean autogas technology.
