WASHINGTON, D.C., September 7, 2011—The Washington Design Center (WDC) and Dodge-Chrome, Inc. present "Architectural and Design Photography: The Art of Imaging," Sept. 8-Oct. 21, 2011, at the Washington Design Center. The exhibition features over 100 works by 29 of the area’s top architectural, interior design, landscape, and fine-art photographers. The exhibition also marks the region’s premier celebration of exceptional architectural photography and groundbreaking digital imaging—capturing the illuminating force behind architectural and design photography and digital art in the nation’s capital.
“The Washington Design Center is a fitting location for the exhibit,” says Jennifer Sergent, director of marketing for the WDC. “The photography highlights not only the talented men and women who captured the images, but the stunning work of our area’s best interior designers, architects, and landscape architects.”
Among the show’s highlights is the iconic photograph by Mike Mitchell of the Beatles first U.S. concert on Feb. 11, 1964 at the Washington Coliseum in Washington, D.C. This photograph recently made news headlines around the world when a gelatin silver print of it was auctioned at Christie’s in New York.
The works will be shown in two gallery showrooms at the design center. The first room will display architectural photography by area photographers, including: Gordon Beall, Ron Blunt, Dan Cunningham, Lydia Cutter, Judy Davis, Roger Foley, Anne Gummerson, Greg Hadley, Julia Heine, Anice Hoachlander, Morgan Howarth, Alan Karchmer, Sam Kittner, Eri

In the second gallery, a display of fine-art photography by Kay Chernush, Robert Epstein, Max Hirshfeld, Karen Jordan, Cade Martin, Mike Mitchell, Irene Owsley, Randy Santos, Angie Seckinger, and Colin Winterbottom, will also be shown alongside innovative imaging techniques by designers of Dodge-Chrome, Inc. Various examples of these techniques, including “environmental interior décor,” where photographic images are printed on a myriad of environmental surfaces, including metal, acrylic, wood, canvas, and paper, will show how these processes have revolutionized the design field.
“Digital imagery has opened possibilities for designers that just a few years ago, no one could have imagined,” says Theo Adamstein, co-owner of Dodge-Chrome, Inc. with Carol Ann Boyd and Ann Dominiski. “We have mastered the ability to print photography on acrylic, metal, wood, glass and other substrates. Dodge-Chrome can take an image and custom-print wall paper or produce larger-than life murals. It is very exciting to see how the design industry is embracing these cutting-edge techniques.”
