Luigi Caterino trounces seven other barbers from across UK to be named king of the wet shaves

After months of hard work and eager anticipation, Britain’s Best Wet Shaving Barber 2015 has finally been crowned.

In the culmination of a gruelling competition spanning five long months, Luigi Caterino, of The Italian Job barbershop in Galashiels, beat off razor-sharp competition from his opponents to eventually take the coveted title.

Luigi, who originally comes from Italy, faced seven other regional winners from across the UK to make the grand final, impressing industry-renowned judges Gary Machin, Patrick Brien and Gareth Clark with his impeccable skills to prove that he really is a cut above the rest.

The drama unfolded inside a boxing ring at the first ever Barber UK, which saw swarms of people turning out to watch the event at the Birmingham NEC on Sunday, May 10. The competition, run by the British Barbers’ Association and premium men’s grooming brand The Bluebeards Revenge, involved eight of the UK’s finest barbering talents battling it out in a round of quarter finals, with Luigi progressing on to the semis along with South East champion Elvis Gjokaj, Midlands winner Shakar Bakani, and defending overall champion, Parsa Rad.

The nail-biting final itself saw 2014 finalist Shakar make an admirable attempt for the title, but he was unable to hold his own against Scotland’s Luigi, who eventually reigned triumphant.

Luigi said that he was over the moon with his win. "I can’t believe it, I’m absolutely blown away. I made it as far as the semis last year, and I’ve been putting in the hours over the past twelve months to try and improve in any way that I could. It seems that it did the job – I keep having to pinch myself to remind myself that it’s not a dream! This has been a life-changing experience for me, and I cannot think of anything that would make me happier."

Nick Gibbens, marketing manager for The Bluebeards Revenge, said: "Luigi has put absolutely everything he’s got into the competition, and he makes a truly deserving winner. It’s great to see how far he has come since competing in the semis last year.

"The event has not only been a celebration of the most creative and innovative of British wet shave barbering, but also a showcase of the growing global reach and talent of the UK cut-throat shaving industry."

Mike Taylor, director of the British Barbers’ Association, added: "We've seen some real talent in this year’s event, and it’s been a great celebration of today’s barbering talent. I consider this a real victory in our bid to facilitate the professional and commercial development of gifted young barbers, ultimately raising professional standards across the board."

In total, more than 250 barbers from across the UK entered the competition to be crowned the best wet shaving barber in Britain.
