The winner of this year’s Kelly Marks Perfect Partners BHS TREC Winter Series for Newcomers is Janet Keeley from Lechlade, Gloucestershire

Janet scored an impressive overall score of 82.3 percent, riding Sensible Samantha to take the trophy. This was Janet’s first competition series having only started BHS TREC in May 2010.

Sensible Samantha also made history by being the first horse to claim both trophies in the series as she carried her owner, Zara Lawlor, to victory in the Open competition.

Janet said: “I only came to see if I liked it and ended up winning! It was all down to Sensible Samantha and the training Zara has done with her. BHS TREC is a brilliant sport to take part in, anyone can give it a try and you don’t need any expensive equipment. The atmosphere was so relaxed and it felt amazing to win.”

Many events were cancelled this series due to the atrocious weather, but competitors were still keen to continue, travelling to alternative venues to compete.
