Horsy heroine honoured with BHS Queen’s Award at Royal Windsor Horse Show

Brenda Larmor, one of the unsung heroes of the equestrian world was recognised on Saturday (12 May) when receiving the prestigious British Horse Society Queen’s Award for Equestrianism from Her Majesty The Queen.

The Award, which is made on the recommendation of the Trustees of The British Horse Society, is “For Outstanding Services to Equestrianism”. With more than 40 years dedicated service to horse lovers in Northern Ireland Brenda is a very worthy recipient.

Her vast knowledge and experience as an RDA Instructor is invaluable to her colleagues at the Riding for the Disabled Association. Brenda is always on hand for help and advice for the Group instructors and travels extensively aroundNorthern Irelandto do so. She has worked tirelessly over and above what would be expected of her and her colleagues who nominated her for the award believe Brenda can be summed up in one phrase, “Generosity of Spirit”.

On receiving her award, Brenda said: “It has been a great honour to have had this prestigious award bestowed on me by The British Horse Society, and a wonderful experience and privilege for it to be presented to me by Her Majesty The Queen at Royal Windsor Horse Show.

“It has been wonderful to enable more people to benefit from riding and I have pleasure in accepting this award on behalf of all the RDA volunteers who give their time to provide children and adults with the opportunity to improve their lives through riding and interacting with horses.”

BHS Chairman,Lynn Petersenaccompanied Brenda to the presentation. Commenting on her achievement she said: “We owe so much to people like Brenda who give their time so generously to ensure our sport is there for all to enjoy. Their dedication and devotion is not always acknowledged so it is marvellous that Brenda’s service has been recognised during her Majesty’s special year.”

The Award was presented by Her Majesty during the celebrations at Royal Windsor Horse Show, billed as the ‘Jubilee Horse Show’.
