MerciaTreccies successfully defended their title on Saturday 12 May at The British Horse SocietyWest MidlandsRegion Adult Gymkhana Competition, lifting the Clueso Cup for the second time.

The winners had to fight off strong challenges from six other teams in the events which included bending, cups, stepping stones, tyre, and flag. The competition, which was held atSouthStaffordshireCollege, Rodbaston Campus, draws entrants from across theWest Midlandsregion.

All sorts of horses and riders joined in the fun, including a 22-year-old semi-retired horse on the winning team who, according to his rider, “seemed to thoroughly enjoy himself”. The combined ages of the winning team was approaching 300 years old, proving that even though they should be old enough to know better, they’re still young enough to enjoy themselves.

Sue Insull from Somerford GGG’s team said “Our team had an absolute ball and thoroughly enjoyed it. We will definitely be putting a team in next year as we enjoyed it so much”.

The Clueso Cup is awarded to the winning team in memory of the late British Horse Society Regional Chairman, Heather Lucas, who did so much for all equestrians in theWest Midlandsarea and is much missed.

The West Midlands Regional Committee would like to thank everyone involved in the smooth running of the day.
