The unique Borders Festival of the Horse, introduced after Foot and Mouth in 2001, is celebrating its tenth Anniversary this year with 40 events taking place over 13 days with a superb programme of events on 18 May.

The festival begins with the first guided ride, this year themed around Sir Walter Scott, starting from the front of Abbotsford House. The ride is to be launched by Lady Judith Steele who will talk about Sir Walter Scott and his life in the Borders.

The following days will feature events for those with or without horses and provide something for everyone. Guided rides, trick riding, an art exhibition, adult gymkhana, horse logging, Floors Castle Horse Trials, Kelso Races, and many other attractions showing the versatility of the horse while acting as a show case to the equestrian industry in the Borders.

Last year around 10,000 people attended the Festival. Organiser Ann Fraser, said: “We have never had such a varied programme of events. Many of these are new to the Festival and provide an action-packed 13 days equine extravaganza.”

As an extension to the Festival, the Borders branch of the BHS has arranged for the Household Cavalry Musical Ride to visit Kelso on the last weekend in August. This will be the first time their famous Musical Ride has ever been performed in Scotland and is certainly an occasion not to be missed. The date of this not-to-be-missed event takes place at Floors Castle on Sunday 28 August 2011.
