BHS urges equestrians to have their say on Forestry issues

The British Horse Society is encouraging all equestrians to make their voice heard by the Independent Panel on Forestry. The Panel has asked the public for their views on the use of forests and woods in England and what they can and should provide, now and in the future.The panel, which was set up to advise Government on the future of England’s forests and woods, calls the consultation “the start of an ongoing dialogue with everyone who is interested in forests and woods”. BHS adds voice to Forest Access Group

The British Horse Society has joined The Forest Access User Group, a group believing that protecting and enhancing public access to our woodland and forests must be at the heart of the work of the Independent Panel on Forestry.The Group has issued a statement to the Chairman Panel, Bishop of Liverpool James Jones, expressing their concerns and hopes for the future of public access to all our forests and woodland. Defra ignores equestrians on Independent Forestry Panel

The British Horse Society today deplored Defra’s exclusion of an equestrian representative on the Independent Forestry Panel.The BHS was quick to point out in a letter to Defra Secretary of State, Caroline Spellman, the dangers posed by the proposed sales of forests to the permissive access equestrians currently enjoy in much of the public forest estate.
