May 21 Symposium to Urge a New U.S. Agenda for Global Food Security
The Chicago Council on Global Affairs to Release New Report on the Power of Science, Trade and Business in Advancing Global Food Security
WASHINGTON, D.C. – On May 21, 2013, leaders from science, government, business and civil society will convene at an all-day symposium to urge U.S. leadership in mobilizing science, increasing trade and capitalizing on the power of business to meet future food demand. At the symposium, The Chicago Council on Global Affairs also will release a new report, Advancing Global Food Security: The Power of Science, Trade, and Business, which puts forward four broad policy recommendations, composed of 21 specific actions to define the next steps for U.S. global food security policy. The Chicago Council Global Food Security Symposium has been convened annually since 2010 to identify opportunities for US leadership in alleviating hunger and poverty through agricultural development. The 2012 symposium served as the platform of the G8 New Alliance for Food Security and Nutrition and featured speakers such as President Barack Obama; former Secretary of State Hillary Rodham Clinton; Bono; heads of state from Ethiopia, Ghana, Tanzania, and Benin; and numerous business leaders.
