Report Recommends US Action to Advance Global Food Security in the Face of Climate Change
Report to be released at Chicago Council Global Food Security Symposium on May 22
May 12, 2014 – The Chicago Council on Global Affairs will release a new study recommending ways the United States can advance global food security in the face of climate change at a full-day symposium on May 22 in Washington, DC. The report puts forward a strategic plan for how the US government can leverage its research institutions, deploy development and trade tools, and engage with businesses to ensure there is enough nutritious food available globally. Advance embargoed copies of the report are available upon request.
The Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change states that climate change could decrease food production by 2 percent each decade for the rest of this century. With population expected to grow to 9 billion people by 2050, without urgent action climate change may make it impossible for food production to keep pace with demand.

The Chicago Council Global Food Security Symposium has been convened annually since 2010 to identify opportunities for US leadership in alleviating hunger and poverty through agricultural development.
