CLEVELAND (December 2, 2010) – A select choir of regionally acclaimed singers and orchestra will present two free performances of “Celebrated Hymns from Handel's Messiah Oratorio” on Saturday, December 11 in Tallmadge, Ohio and Sunday, December 12, in Westlake, Ohio. Both performances begin promptly at 6:30 p.m. and are open to the public.
“We are pleased to present such a musical dedication to the Savior Jesus Christ,” says William Titera, president of the Cleveland Ohio Stake of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. “Some of the region’s finest musical talent have joined together to present this special Christmas program.”
Handel’s Messiah, the most famous oratorio ever written, is a collection of hymns or anthems drawn from the sacred scriptures. Messiah is divided into three sections. The first concerns prophesy of the coming of a Messiah and Christ's nativity. Part two chronicles Christ's atonement, death and resurrection. The concluding section offers an affirmation of Christian faith and glimpses of Revelation. Although Messiah deals with the New Testament story of Christ's life, a majority of the texts used to tell the story were selected from the Old Testament prophetic books of Isaiah, Haggai, Malachi and others.
“It will surely be an inspirational holiday experience to be enjoyed by the entire family,” says Titera. It is recommended to arrive at least one half-hour prior to the concert.
