A letter from Lorraine Kelly
Dear Editor:
I appreciate that you are very busy and receive lots of letters, but I would personally be very honoured if you and your readers supported a great cause that is very close to my heart because it aims to save many women’s lives.
I am supporting a charity called The Eve Appeal. This great charity that was launched in 2005, raises funds to support gynaecological cancer research. This March is Ovarian Cancer Awareness Month – and The Eve Appeal is asking women all over the UK to ‘Make Time for TEA (TEA stands for The Eve Appeal)’, have a great time with close friends and raise much-needed funds at the same time. Simple!
The campaign really is that straightforward. People like you, and me, and your readers are being encouraged to pop the kettle on and organise their very own ‘Make Time for TEA’ party, any day of the week in March. The charity has put together a great fundraising pack full of inspiring ideas on how to hold your own TEA party. Now in its seventh year, the campaign has a Vintage theme, so we are asking your readers to dust down their porcelain tea set, pop on a pretty tea-dress and have a fun afternoon with the girls! I will be hosting my own ‘Make Time for TEA’ party too and very much look forward to a having a good old natter with my friends whilst raising funds at the same time.
On a more serious note, awareness and fundraising are paramount if we are to fight this deadly disease. I’m afraid to say that the statistics are very alarming: over 6,500 women in the UK are diagnosed with ovarian cancer each year and 4,400 die. Together, though, we can make a difference. This great charity has already contributed £4.7 million to research since it launched. And nothing would please me more if your readers took part in this campaign to help them beat their target of 500 UK tea parties to reach their financial goal of £150,000.
So what do your readers need to do to get involved? Just call The Eve Appeal on T: 020 7299 4430 or visit www.eveappeal.org.uk/maketimefortea for your very own fundraising pack. And who knows, I might get to meet one of your readers because I am offering a VIP prize for this campaign. Three lucky party holders with a guest will visit the filming of ‘Lorraine’ at the ITV Studios in London followed by brunch at a top London hotel.
If I can have one final word it is this: Please go online today to download your pack because you really can make an impact.
Thanking you and all your readers in advance for your support and involvement. Here's to fighting this cancer together and making 2012 the best year yet for ‘Make Time for TEA.’
