In Ovarian Cancer Awareness Month – March 2014, hold a Make Time for Tea party and help The Eve Appeal reach their target

Singer and TV presenter Cheryl Baker has joined forces with The Eve Appeal and is asking women in the UK to Make Time for Tea during Ovarian Cancer Awareness Month in March.

“Celebrate the Great British cuppa by holding a tea party to help The Eve Appeal raise funds for research and save women’s lives.”

Almost 7,000 women in the UK are diagnosed with ovarian cancer each year and 4,300 will die.

We really must improve these statistics which is why The Eve Appeal has pledged £1,650,000 to an international research project into risk prediction and early diagnosis  (PROMISE 2016). We are now so close to being able to fulfil this and need just £286,600 to ensure the completion of PROMISE 2016.

Just 1000 tea parties, raising an average of £250 each would see us almost reach this important target.

Tea parties are inexpensive to host, even on a tight budget and great for all ages – all you need is tea, cakes and friends. To raise money you can either charge entry to the party, or charge per pot of tea and per cake.  Register at tea@eveappeal.org.uk, 020 7605 0100 or www.eveappeal.org.uk/tea and you’ll be sent a colourful fundraising pack with lots of fun, party and fundraising ideas from recipes to raffles and games to garlands, invitations, posters, balloons and lots of ideas.

In the UK we drink 165 million cups of tea of a day, so add a few cupcakes into the mix and 1,000 tea parties should be a breeze.

This year’s Make Time for Tea campaign, now in its ninth year, is being spearheaded for the first time by our celebrity ambassador, TV presenter Cheryl Baker.

Says Cheryl  “I’m ‘making my mind up’ to have a good old chinwag with the girls over a lovely cup of tea and a slice of cake – particularly because this little indulgence will make such a difference to reaching that target.  Please help The Eve Appeal to get to 1,000 tea parties…. it’s so easy I’ll be putting the kettle on myself - and loving a reason to get the best china out! “

Says Robert Marsh, CEO of The Eve Appeal   “It’s such an easy way to fundraise. All you need to do is put the kettle on and host a tea party – at work, at home, at school, sports clubs and more.  So come on ladies… (and gentlemen), there’s work to be done to reach the target of 1,000 tea parties. Whether it’s a traditional tea party, or something with a bit more spice, do your bit for women, no matter how small and make time for tea with The Eve Appeal.”
