The Fruit Company Announces 2013 Scholarship Award Recipients

Hood River, Ore. (June 25, 2013) – The Fruit Company, a third generation family-owned premium fruit gifting business, is proud to announce the recipients of its annual scholarship program for the Roy Webster Memorial Scholarship and The Fruit Company Gift Basket Entrepreneur Award: Jasher Grunau of Fork Union, Va. and Laurie Guysick of Akron, Ohio.

“The Fruit Company is committed to helping the next generation of entrepreneurs, visionaries and leaders,” said Scott Webster, CEO of The Fruit Company.  “Our scholarship program is an opportunity for us to encourage and support the next generation of agricultural stewards and business leaders.”

For the 2013-2014 academic school year, Grunau was awarded the Roy Webster Memorial Scholarship of $1,000 for his essay on how urbanization of rural farming communities has changed the political and socioeconomic landscape. Grunau, a high school graduate, plans to use the scholarship for engineering studies at Virginia Tech this fall.  Guysick, the recipient of the new The Fruit Company Gift Basket Entrepreneur Award of $1,000, won the essay contest for her proposed solution to bridging the gap between traditional advertising and modern technology.  A working mother and wife, Guysick has returned to school to finish a degree in business management.

Roy Webster Memorial Scholarship
Founder of Webster Orchards, and grandfather to The Fruit Company owner and CEO Scott Webster, Roy Webster was a visionary orchardist, prominent businessman, and a dedicated family man.
