System Training Helps Countryside Council for Wales Cut Carbon

System Training has been commissioned to deliver its award-winning eco and defensive driver training to the Countryside Council for Wales (CCW) - enabling the organisation to reduce its carbon emissions and impact on the environment. Training will be delivered to 300 CCW employees who drive cars as part of their daily duties to help protect, sustain and facilitate access to Wales’ natural beauty. System Training has recently picked up national awards for its safe and fuel-efficient driving techniques and has helped reduce accident rates, fuel consumption and carbon emissions for many road transport and logistics companies. The CCW, the Government’s statutory advisor on sustaining natural beauty in Wales, has high environmental standards. It was the first organisation to be granted the Green Dragon Level 5 award for its environmental efforts and its environmental management system meets the requirements of ISO14001. But the CCW has high aspirations and in 2009 set a target of reducing its carbon emissions by 24% in three years. System Training’s proven eco-driving techniques will help it achieve that and ensure the 1.2 million miles covered by CCW’s fleet each year has the least possible impact on the environment. Its highly-experienced instructors will teach drivers how to achieve enhanced fuel economy and reduced emissions by using gears efficiently, accelerating smoothly and cutting out harsh braking. By focusing on the road and conditions ahead drivers will become safer – and maintain CCW’s extremely low accident and incident rate. In keeping with CCW’s internal bilingual policy, all training materials and staff correspondence will be provided in both English and Welsh. Training commences in mid-October and System aims to have 100 drivers through its programme by March 2011. Robin Brown, System Training Chief Executive, said: “Our eco-driving programmes are proven to cut carbon emissions and reduce fuel and that’s obviously high on the agenda for an organisation like CCW. Its environmental standards are already extremely high but I believe System’s techniques will produce a sustained behavioral change to help CCW’s drivers become greener and safer on the road.” Roger Thomas, CCW Chief Executive, said: “As a national leader in measuring and tackling public sector greenhouse gas emissions, CCW is striving to cut further its carbon and ecological footprints. The target of 24% by 2012 reflects the pace at which changes are needed to avoid the more damaging climate change scenarios.” Ends Media contact: Glenn Patterson, m: 07872 470115, e: glenn@the-inside-line.co.uk Further information on System Training and its training and workforce development solutions available from Stephanie Norman, t: 01228 574024, e: Stephanie.norman@system-training.com Follow System Training on Twitter at www.twitter.com/systemtraining
