US cardiology researchers recently reported that fasting can lower cholesterol levels along with the risk of developing coronary artery disease and diabetes. They also found that a 24-hour fast could boost the release of natural human growth hormone (HGH). Previously, the American Heart Association studied religious groups that regularly fast one day per month and found they have lower rates of heart disease.
