These findings do not surprise Dian Griesel, Ph.D, co-author of the new book TurboCharged: Accelerate Your Fat Burning Metabolism, Get Lean Fast and Leave Diet and Exercise Rules in the Dust (BSH, 2011).

A new research study has determined that obesity is a major risk factor for death among obese women who don’t smoke.  The study, which was published online in the British Medical Journal on June 28, involved more than 3,600 women aged 45 to 64 in Scotland who never smoked and were followed for 28 years.  During that time, half the women died, including 916 (51 percent) from cardiovascular disease.  Those who were severely obese had the highest death rates.

These findings do not surprise Dian Griesel, Ph.D, co-author of the new book TurboCharged: Accelerate Your Fat Burning Metabolism, Get Lean Fast and Leave Diet and Exercise Rules in the Dust (BSH, 2011).

“For every extra pound of body fat, miles of capillaries are created,” says Dr. Griesel.  “Multiply this by the 20+ pounds of deadly and unnecessary body fat many women carry, and you have created an immense strain on the heart and its ability to function for a long life.”

Over time, says Dr. Griesel, excess body fat taxes all of a person’s natural bodily functions.  “Ultimately, one or more chronic diseases is triggered,” she continues.  “Then, as women take multiple medications that must be processed by the body—even as the core issue, obesity, remains unaddressed—you have established the foundation for premature death.”

Written by Dr. Griesel and her brother Tom Griesel, TurboCharged is a myth-busting, sane approach that flies in the face of just about every other diet and exercise method ever developed.  The book offers men and women of all ages a manageable, sensible, and straightforward strategy for staying active and eating healthfully.
