New School Shop Benefits Derby High School
A new, on-site school shop at Derby High School has proved very popular with parents since it opened.
The shop, which is being managed by the John Cheatle Group, is a first for the school, which was previously supplied with uniforms and school sportswear by John Cheatle through the company’s retail shops, Morleys of Chaddesden and Ellis of Burton-on-Trent. As regional schoolwear manager Carol Redford described, moving to a school shop was a significant decision:
“It is the next stage for an independent school, bringing the convenient shopping experience right into the school grounds and making it much easier for parents and pupils. The new shop provides fantastic access for car parking and a spacious site with fully electronic till and card payment facility.”
Derby High School is an independent school established in 1892, educating boys and girls from pre-school to age 11 and girls only from 11 to 18 on a single site. Deputy head Anne Penny said the establishment of an on-site school shop had been very successful:
“The feedback we’ve had from parents indicates they are enjoying the convenience of the shop, and our senior school girls can go in themselves to make purchases. Our shop manager says it runs very smoothly, too. Getting to grips with the new till technology was a bit of a challenge, but it has actually made things run more smoothly.”
School shop manager Katrina Smith – who is also a classroom assistant in the kindergarten at Derby High School – was given full training by John Cheatle Group at its Chaddesden store, prior to opening the Derby High School shop.
John Cheatle Group’s regional support manager Leeann Fisher, who is based locally, oversees the administration of the shop, demonstrating the Group’s extensive regional support around the UK for the growing number of school shops it manages – now over 50 nationwide.
As Anne Penny concluded: “We’re delighted with it; we refurbished an old changing room at the school and it has been totally transformed. The operation between ourselves and John Cheatle works very well and they are most helpful in working with and supporting us.”
