19 & 20 August 2015

A top storyteller is bringing some classic English stories to the people of York this Wednesday and Thursday evening, when Peter Carrington Porter tells three stories from Chaucer’s Canterbury Tales – including his personal epilogue on how the tales might end!

The two events, which take place at St Helen’s Church in St Helen’s Square, York, mark a return to the city for the storyteller, who kept sell-out audiences spellbound with his interpretation of Beowulf in February.  As part of the JORVIK Medieval Festival, he will tell three stories from the famous book in modern English, rather than the original Chaucerian version – although retaining all of the original humour and moral scruples for which the tales are known.

“These will be wonderful retelling of some of the finest stories written in English and delivered with Peter’s captivating style,” comments Festival Director, Danielle Daglan.  “There can be few better ways of spending a summer’s eve than with fine stories in such a stunning building right at the heart of York!”

The three tales that audiences will enjoy are the bawdy Miller’s Tale, the romantic Franklin’s Tale, and the moralistic Pardoner’s Tale.  The event is suitable for older children and adults of any age.

Tickets are available online, priced at £7.00 for adults, £4.00 for children and £5.00 for concessions at www.jorvikmedievalfestival.com or by calling 01904 615505.  The events start at 7.30pm each evening and last between 75 and 90 minutes.
