Kresge is conducting a final round of facility and building reserve grants as it continues to refine its overall investment strategy; Arts and Community Building and Artists' Support Skills and Resources also are welcoming preliminary applications.

October 19, 2011

The Kresge Foundation’s Arts and Culture program is announcing its final call for preliminary applications for Facility Investments and Building Reserves. Details of the applications process as well as access to the online application are available on the website. The application process is the same as in past calls.

This is the last time the Arts and Culture program will offer this grant opportunity. The application deadline is 5 p.m. Eastern Standard Time on March 1, 2012.

“Our goal for the Arts and Culture program is to help communities use arts and culture as a tool to create healthy, vibrant communities,” says Alice Carle, program director for Arts and Culture. “Earlier this spring, we began a comprehensive review of our program, testing the strengths and weaknesses of the grant opportunities we have been offering relative to the outcomes achieved.”

The decision to sunset the Facility and Building Reserve Initiative, following the March 1 deadline, is based on these findings. Although the program refinement process continues, two other grant opportunities have been opened to the public: Art and Community Building and Artists’ Skills and Resources.

Carle predicts the core elements of Kresge’s national Arts and Culture program will remain largely the same. "Instead of three seperate elements, we are developing a more integrated approach for achieving the program's overarching goal," says Carle. She expects the team will announce its newly refined program in spring 2012.

“This past year we received more than 400 preliminary applications for Facility Investments and Building Reserves,” Carle says. “We anticipate this final round to be equally competitive. To cast the widest possible net, we are extending the application timeline to five-and-a-half months. Our hope is that by announcing this final round of Facility Investments and Building Reserves funding on October 19 and setting a deadline date of March 1, 2012, interested organizations will have plenty of time to plan and prepare competitive preliminary applications.”
