NanoSteel Names Steel Industry Executives Herbert Fastert and Peter Southwick to Company’s Advisory Board
Appointees bring best practices in operations, process and equipment to proprietary steel materials design firm
PROVIDENCE, R.I. (Thursday, May 31, 2012) – The NanoSteel® Company, a leader in nano-structured steel materials design, today announced that Herbert Fastert and Peter Southwick have joined the company’s board of advisors. Both executives possess significant experience in operations, materials science, and manufacturing process technology in the global steel industry.
Herbert Fastert, widely recognized as a steel technology innovator, holds particular expertise in the area of manufacturing process and equipment design. Over the course of his career, Fastert has developed numerous patents in the field of casting and metal processing, including the collaboration with Irving Rossi, Concast’s founder, to pioneer the continuous casting of steel. While serving as CEO of SMS Schloemann-Siemag and SMS Demag, Fastert also led the Nucor and SMS development partnership of compact strip production (CSP).
Peter Southwick, Ph.D., a steel operations and materials expert, has a prolific track record driving global development of value-added products across multiple industries, including automotive and oil & gas. As CEO of Ispat Inland, Inc., Dr. Southwick achieved productivity improvements in Ispat Inland’s $2.4B steel business which led to record-setting profitability and the successful integration into Mittal Steel (now ArcelorMittal), where Southwick subsequently served as a senior executive. In addition to his accomplishments in product development, Dr. Southwick’s quality improvement processes in manufacturing are also considered best practices in the industry.
“We are very pleased to welcome Herbert and Peter to our advisory board,” said Dave Paratore, president and CEO. “We stand at the threshold of introducing new nano-structured steels into key markets. Given this, Peter’s substantial knowledge in operational efficiency and quality control, coupled with Herbert’s accomplished expertise in process and equipment design, will powerfully shape our global strategy moving forward.”
Fastert is the managing partner of Advance-TEK, LLC, as well as vice president of technology for Steel Development Company, LLC (SDCO). Dr. Southwick currently serves on several boards, including National Health Service Cambridgeshire, England.
