The Nargis Dutt Memorial Foundation of New York commits over $150,000 to the Indore Cancer Foundation Charitable Trust of India
Long Island, NY, September 13, 2010— The Nargis Dutt Memorial Foundation, a New York based non-profit organization, is holding its 29th Annual Benefit Gala on September 26, 2010 at the Long Island Marriott Hotel.
This year, NDMF has committed to fund over $150,000 to the Indore Cancer Foundation Charitable Trust in India. The Indore Cancer Foundation was created in 1988 through the efforts of the late Shri Sunil Dutt and the renowned Dr. Jatin P. Shah of the Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center, New York. We are grateful to Mr. Ravishankar Bhooplapur of Rotary Foundation for their financial support for the Indore project.
Over the past 29 years, the New York chapter of the Nargis Dutt Memorial Foundation has provided financial support for over 50 projects. Numerous hospitals have received equipment for the detection of cancer and treatment of needy patients. Funding has been provided for the education of medical professionals. Recently, NDMF has also contributed to relief efforts of natural disasters, such as the 2004 tsunami in Sri Lanka, as well as the horrific earthquake in Haiti in January 2010. This year, the NDMF funds are being deployed for the purchase of much needed radiation equipment for the early detection and treatment of underprivileged cancer patients at the Indore Cancer Foundation Charitable Trust.
This year the benefit dinner will be graced by the presence of Honorable Members of Parliament Mrs. Priya Dutt and Dr. Prabhakar Kore, Dr. Digpal Dharkar of the Indore Cancer Foundation, U. S. Congressman Peter King, Honorable Nassau County Executive Edward Mangano and Dr. Jatin P. Shah.
This year the honorees are Mrs. Shashi Anand, Mr. Maninder Singh Sethi, Mr. Harry Singh, Mrs. Jas K. Ghura, Mr. Harry Arora and Dr. Jeremy Boal.
“As one of the oldest non-profit organizations in the United States working for the awareness, prevention, and treatment of cancer in India, we are honored to support the efforts of the Indore Cancer Foundation”, said Mr. Inder Bindra, Chairperson of the Governing Body of NDMF. “We thank our honorees, sponsors, and benefactors for their continued generosity toward this worthy cause.”
