An award winning interior design firm have secured a contract to refurbish a landmark building in the North East.

Space I.D will be redesigning the entire Vermont Hotel in Newcastle, starting with the reception, the bar and restaurant before finishing at the top of the hotel, the fifth floor, which offers views of the River Tyne and the iconic Millennium Bridge.

The company, based at the Jupiter Centre at the North East Business and Innovation Centre (BIC) was set up five years ago and have gone from strength to strength ever since. Phil Young set up Space I.D alongside fellow directors Marc Hardy and Mike Simmons, bringing together a dynamic team with over 50 years of experience in architecture and interior design and just recently have added one more to their ever growing company, Danielle Hart.

Phil said: “It is always an exciting challenge to revamp a busy hotel, especially one which runs at a high capacity. The team at Space I.D have a lot of experience in renovating hotels and we are really excited to get cracking with the task at hand.

“This year looks very promising; we are currently working on a coffee bar and cocktail bar in Seaham as well as putting in initial development with the council for a new hotel and spa just outside of Glasgow which has potential to be a two year contract.

“We love the variety our career brings and no two jobs are the same. It’s amazing when you see your ideas brought to life.” Space I.D moved to the BIC in January 2012 finding their perfect office space in the Jupiter Centre.

Phil adds: “The size of the office is ideal for us, all the facilities are to the highest standards, not to mention the great transport routes; we have clients coming from Scotland, clients coming from London and it’s easy to find - a great environment to bring clients in.”

David Howell, director of operations at the North East BIC, commented: “We knew that Space I.D would be ones to watch within the region and we are delighted to see their business grow from strength to strength.

“It is very complimentary having design professionals such as Space I.D to choose the BIC as their home and to hear that they are impressed with the aesthetics of the BIC site. I wish them all the best for the future.”
