Entrepreneur putts best foot forward in business

An entrepreneur has turned his passion for golf into profits identifying a way to prolong the life of a driver, the most expensive club.

After working in sales for 14 years, Anthony Wright visited the North East Business and Innovation Centre (BIC) to help make his dream a reality and his business Skin your Club was born, Anthony said:

“All golfers can identify with the frustration of placing your ball on the tee, swinging the driver and running the risk of scratching it but Skin your Club aims to solve this. It got to the point if I didn’t try now I never would.

“I have played golf since I was a young boy and I began thinking of ways that I could protect my club during the course of the game, I knew that modern day materials and manufacturing techniques would allow the production of a hard wearing yet malleable covering of some sort.

“I researched this widely until I sourced a company based in the North East that had the technical know-how to create designs and manufacture high quality vinyl products. I spent numerous weeks working alongside them until we perfected the quality and design in order for it to work perfectly on a golf club and it went from there.

“After the initial idea I visited the BIC and met with business adviser Debbie Simpson. I also attended a few seminars on how to start your own business. I am now distributing all over the UK, just knowing that all my hard work, effort and passion has paid off makes me feel very proud.

Anthony met with business adviser Debbie Simpson where he gained the knowledge to enable him to write a business plan, understand finance and how to market himself. Shirley Hermiston, Business Support Manager at the BIC, said:

"Anthony has a real passion for golf and for anyone who meets him this comes through clearly. He is driven and focused and put his heart and soul into getting his business dream up and running. I wish him all the best for the future.

"I would urge anyone out there who has a business idea and wishes to become their own boss to please get in touch with us here at the BIC, our team of experienced advisers have helped thousands of people succeed by providing hands on practical advice."
