Grand Prairie, TX – March 19, 2013 – The Grand Prairie, Texas campus of Lincoln College of Technology has been selected as the newest training location for BMW’s STEP program.

“Lincoln is proud to be recognized and selected by BMW to provide this prestigious training,” says Lincoln’s President and CEO Shaun McAlmont.  “This program opens doors around the country for our most talented, focused students and can be a springboard to a great career with a high-quality manufacturer.”

BMW STEP - Service Technician Education Program - gives students in Lincoln’s Automotive Technician program the opportunity to undergo the same intensive training that BMW Master Technicians receive and they will receive two years of credit towards BMW’s five-year Master Technician requirement.  The six-month program will be open to qualifying graduates from Lincoln College of Technology, Lincoln Technical Institute and other providers of post-secondary automotive training.

Acceptance into STEP is highly competitive:  candidates must maintain a GPA of 3.5 or better, hold an excellent driving record and have at least a 97% attendance record.  With the assistance of Lincoln’s Career Services team they will apply for careers at BMW dealerships.  Students who successfully complete the program can find themselves in the fast lane to a rewarding, exciting career with one of the world’s leading automotive manufacturers.

“This partnership shows BMW’s confidence in our automotive program and in our students,” says Steve Buchenot, Lincoln’s Group President.  “It has certainly brought a new dimension to our Grand Prairie campus.  Students are excited, they aspire to enter into the STEP program and it has set Lincoln apart from other automotive training institutions in Texas.”

Lincoln invested over $1,000,000 in infrastructure and equipment to bring BMW’s STEP program to the Grand Prairie, Texas campus, resulting in the creation of a “school-within-a-school.” The STEP facility will have its own entrance with nearly 10,000 dedicated square feet of classroom and auto lab space which includes specific BMW repair and maintenance equipment, diagnostic tools and new BMW models.  A number of cars have already been provided by the manufacturer, including their renowned 7-Series, and a new round of 2013 models are set to arrive in April.

In addition to these cars, BMW is supplying heavy-duty maintenance equipment such as the KDS II Wheel Alignment System and the GSP97BMW Road Force Measurement System.

By partnering to bring the STEP program to Grand Prairie, both Lincoln and BMW will benefit.  Lincoln students who are accepted into STEP will receive expert training designed specifically for careers with a leader in the automotive industry.  BMW, in turn, will have a direct line to the next generation of technicians that will repair and maintain their iconic line of automobiles—knowing those technicians were trained on their own specific technology and equipment.

Lincoln Technical Institute’s Grand Prairie campus is accredited by the Accrediting Commission of Career Schools and Colleges, ACCSC. ACCSC is listed as a nationally recognized accrediting agency by the United States Department of Education.
