WOR 710 AM to HOST 3rd ANNUAL 12 HOUR “RED KETTLE DAY” RADIOTHON TO BENEFIT THE GREATER NEW YORK DIVISION OF THE SALVATION ARMY

 (Friday, December 9, 2011, New York, NY) - WOR 710 AM will host a star-studded RADIOTHON to be broadcast live from Centennial Memorial Temple at the Salvation Army headquarters, located at 120 W. 14th Street in Manhattan from 6:00 AM through 6:00 PM. The event will feature hosts John Gambling, Joan Hamburg, Dr. Joy Browne and Governor David Paterson as they engage their listening audience to raise funds for The Salvation Army’s myriad of programs and services provided year-long throughout the Greater New York region. Listeners will call into (800) 234-1710 to make their donations and pledges, and the general public is welcome to attend the event.

Jerry Crowley, WOR General Manager, stated, “This RADIOTHON outreach is critical as the need for the services that the Greater New York Salvation Army provides is greater than ever. I understand that generous people who were donating to The Salvation Army a few years ago now need their services, and The Salvation Army will not let them down.”

The 12 hour event will also include scheduled performances from the cast of Broadway shows: Mamma Mia!,  Anything Goes, and Memphis as well as songsters Michael Feinstein, Peter Yarrow and Paul Stookey of Peter, Paul and Mary fame, Melissa Errico, John Pizzarelli and Andrea Marcovicci. Scheduled appearances also include Steve Ross and Tony Danza.

Celebrity and VIP appearances also include chefs Lidia Bastianich and Rocco Dispirito, and the Amazing Kreskin to name a few. Beth Israel Medical Center will provide free flu shots to the public from 1:00 to 3:00 PM on-site at the Centennial Memorial Temple. Additionally, a pop-up thrift store will be set up and will feature top-of-the-line merchandise with all proceeds benefitting The Salvation Army’s adult rehabilitation programs.
