Teed up and ready for The Springfields Academy Charitable Trust Golf Day
The Springfields Academy is hosting a Charitable Trust Golf Day, Saturday 9 February 2013 at Woodbridge Park Golf Club in Brinkworth.
It’s guaranteed to be a fantastic event for golfers of all abilities. The Woodbridge Park Golf Club’s course is well-known in Wiltshire for its lush greens and fairways, but also for its challenges: golfers will face water hazards, bunkers and other tricky obstacles.
All the proceeds from the event will be donated to The Springfields Academy and their Charitable Trust, which supports the work of the school; the outstanding SEN Award-winning residential special academy works with pupils who experience social, emotional and complex learning difficulties. The emphasis at The Springfields Academy is on nurturing pupils’ education and interests. From this grows self-belief among the children in their capabilities, and the school builds on this confidence: providing academic and vocational opportunities for pupils to demonstrate their abilities, The Springfields Academy allows their pupils’ peers to share in their belief.
The Golf Day is the perfect opportunity for a fun company team-building activity, or alternatively, it’s a great family day out. It’s planned to become an annual event, joining The Springfields Academy’s hugely successful Summer Ball.
Everyone that takes part in the golf day will also have the chance of winning prizes in the 18-hole Stableford Team Competition for the nearest pin, the longest drive and the nearest line. There will be special prizes for the winning team, and the individual highest score.
There’s even a brand new car on offer for anyone who manages to sink a hole in one, thanks to The Chippenham Motor Company.
The Springfields Academy has enjoyed a huge amount of local support for the event, not least from TBT Ltd, based in Frome, and Creative Communications Company, who have been extremely generous in supplying prizes, and is excited to raise more much-needed funds for the school and their Charitable Trust.
The Charitable Trust is the branch of the Academy funding the Extreme Classroom initiative, a programme which Principal Trystan Williams is completely dedicated to and passionate about. Williams believes the ‘extreme’ concept presents an opportunity for pupils to develop self-belief, overcome adversity and prove a point to themselves and others who may have written them off.
So far there have been two BBC documentaries covering the experience of the pupils - children with complex learning difficulties– on the extraordinary expeditions: The Coldest Classroom on Earth trip to the North Pole was 78 degrees north, whilst The Hottest Classroom on Earth saw the pupils, lead by Trystan himself, trek their way through an eight-day trip to the African Rift Valley, Tanzania, to the Ngoro Ngoro crater accompanied by Masai tribesmen. More Extreme Classroom expeditions are in the pipeline, including a climb to Everest Base Camp in 2013.
The Springfields Academy Residential Child Care Officer, Kevin Derby, says 'We’re sure the Golf Day will be a smashing event for all the participants. And not only that, we’re delighted to be raising funds for such a worthy cause, The Springfields Academy’s Charitable Trust, in the process. The event could not have gone ahead without the contributions from the local businesses; we’re really grateful for all their support.’
Coffee and bacon will be available on arrival, and after the golfing, food and refreshments will be served in the clubhouse. The event will finish with a presentation of prizes to the skilled winners.
The Springfields Academy would like to invite you and any business colleagues to attend. If you are interested, please contact Kevin Derby on 07969 353632, or drop him an email at kderby@springfields.wilts.sch.uk
