San Jose, CA. March 23, 2016 — Nearly 3,000 students visited The Tech Museum of Innovation in March as part of Google Field Trip Days, which culminated today with more than 700 students from underserved communities visiting the museum for hands-on science labs, IMAX films and inspiration.

This is the second year the Mountain View company has covered the cost of field trips to The Tech for students from schools in low-income neighborhoods. Google’s grant pays for transportation, museum admission, a science lab, an IMAX film and lunch for students whose schools otherwise might not be able to visit The Tech.

“So often, we hear stories from adults in STEM fields about how a visit to a science museum sparked their interest as a child,” said Tim Ritchie, president and CEO of The Tech. “We’re grateful to Google for providing us the opportunity to light that spark for thousands of kids in Silicon Valley.”

On Wednesday students visited The Tech’s newest hands-on exhibit, BioDesign Studio, which allows them to play, tinker and design with the building blocks of life. All exhibits and programs at The Tech are built to help visitors of all ages and backgrounds learn to use technology to solve pressing problems in subjects like health, the environment, space exploration, genetics and more. In-depth science labs allow students to explore and innovate in a hands-on way that also supports Next Generation Science Standards and Common Core State Standards.
