New Yorkers Are Summoned to Create a Recipe for the Chance to Win a $500 Kitchen Grant

New York, NY (October 26, 2011) — New York is arguably the leading city in the world for dining out, but it’s eating in that often gets the short end of the stick. All the resources—the gourmet food shops, regional food blogs, inventive restaurants for inspiration—are at New Yorkers’ fingertips, but the size of their kitchens just doesn’t measure up to the breadth of their culinary imaginations. For the first time, the diminutive dimensions of their kitchens will be advantageous to New Yorkers’ edible creations, thanks to the Cook in Your Nook Challenge.

The Thomas Collective, a New York City-based communications group, wants to reward New Yorkers for their lack of space and resulting ingenuity through the Cook in Your Nook Challenge. The recipe contest asks participants to submit an original food recipe and prepare it in their New York City kitchen, with points awarded for overcoming obstacles presented by a lack of space. The creator of the best tasting and most originally executed dish, coupled with a handicap score measured by space limitations, will win a $500 kitchen grant to pursue their culinary dreams however they please.

The winning recipe will be selected by a judging panel led by Rick Hickman of the critically-acclaimed Green Table restaurant in Manhattan (and a small kitchen inhabitant), based on taste, presentation, creativity of execution, and the obstacles posed by the participant’s kitchen. Entrants are asked to submit not only their recipe, but three photos of their kitchen, one of the finished dish as it was prepared in the kitchen, and a short description of the cooking challenges they faced. “New Yorkers are clever: we’ve tasted delicious cakes baked in toaster ovens and magnificent stews cooked on hot plates -- done with limited counter space, without the arsenal of tools normally accessible to the rest of the country” said Pamela Thomas, President and founder of The Thomas Collective. “We can’t wait to see the creative solutions people have devised in the pursuit of their culinary passions.”

Founded in 2005, The Thomas Collective (TTC) is a collaborative group of seasoned communication professionals with a variety of backgrounds and specializations from almost every field of communications. Independently owned, the agency currently represents national and international brands in a broad range of lifestyle categories, and employs a team of people rabid about food and drink.

To enter TTC’s Cook in Your Nook Challenge, participants may visit www.facebook.com/TheThomasCollective to read the official rules and submit their original recipe and supporting materials by November 15, 2011 (11:59:59 PM EST).
